How do you rate the importance of hiring
technically trained employees?
Not very/not at
our respondents say is “very important.” In fact, only two percent
say this is not very or not at all important. But the difficulty often
lies in the distribution industry’s ability to find sales personnel
with industrial knowledge. DGI Supply told us earlier this year that
they’ve begun to take a new approach by recruiting salespeople
from different industries and training them extensively once they’re
on board. According to DGI’s VP of sales and marketing Mickey
Davis, the company is looking outside of the technical background,
for people who have good selling and sales management skills.
“You get the selling skills first; you can match any product against
it,” said Davis.
